Landscaping

Our neighbors love the shared landscaping in our numerous street trees, native trees and improved medians, entries, parks and the mile-long Sir Francis Drake Boulevard (SFDB) frontage between Eliseo Drive and Manor Road. All are maintained and slowly improved, limited funds permitting, to enhance the natural beauty of our community. All this thoughtful work is led by the County of Marin Parks Department and our County Service Area 16 (CSA 16) Advisory Board (for Greenbrae, north of SFDB) comprised of thoughtful, dedicated homeowners from our community.

Technically, the Greenbrae Property Owners Association (GPOA) does not maintain the landscaping, but our Landscaping Committee communicates regularly with the County and the CSA 16 Advisory Board to ensure our community landscaping is healthy, safe for residents and wildlife and “fire safe.” If you have input and suggestions, email Landscaping@greenbrae.org

You may notice FireWise USA signs around the community medians. This is the result of intensive, ongoing efforts and support by community members and our Landscaping Committee, CSA 16 Advisory Board, County Parks, our Kentfield and Larkspur Fire Departments, FireSafe Marin and the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority https://www.nfpa.org/education-and-research/wildfire/firewise-usa

Parcel Taxes to Pay for our Community Landscaping

Each home parcel in Greenbrae, through their property taxes, pays $150 per year for community landscape maintenance and improvements.  Those funds are prioritized by the CSA 16 Advisory Board in coordination with County Parks. This current parcel tax collects approximately $200,000 per year, which is the same amount that has been charged per parcel since 1995. So, you can imagine how this funding doesn’t go as far as it used to! Only so much can be done and we encourage homeowners to talk together and consider creating an initiative to raise this assessment so our CSA 16 Advisory Board, Landscaping Committee and County Parks can do more to improve the health and beauty of the trees and landscaping in our shared spaces.
